The District Magistrate of Patna, Dr. Chandra Shekhar Singh, has announced all schools till class 8 to remain closed till January 20. The school closure has been extended in response to the ongoing cold wave situation, which poses risks to the health and well-being of the students. Classes above class 8 will stay open.
According to the directive, schools, including private institutions, Anganwadi centers, government schools, and pre-schools, will remain shut until January 20. This closure is applicable to all schools up to the 8th grade. Teachers and parents have been recommended to get in touch with school authorities for the latest updates.

It should be noted that the District Magistrate of Patna issued an order on January 12 to close schools. The order specified keeping schools closed until January 16. Similarly, several other districts also issued similar orders. However, despite being aware of the cold conditions and news of illness and deaths, many district magistrates remained unconcerned. In addition to Patna, orders to close schools were issued in Gaya, Muzaffarpur, Gopalganj, West Champaran, Saran, Siwan, Vaishali, Munger, Darbhanga, Samastipur, Nalanda, and Madhubani districts. In Patna, Darbhanga, Siwan, Nalanda, and Munger, schools up to the eighth grade were ordered to remain closed for classes from January 13 to January 16.
