Jammu and Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha has taken cognisance of the killing of Bihar migrant worker in Shopian. He has condemned the incident and assured of investigation by security forces. He wrote on X, “I strongly condemn the brutal killing of a vendor Ashok Chauhan in Shopian by cowardly terrorists. The entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with his family. Our security forces are determined to hunt down the culprits and bring them to justice.”
Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah has also condemned the killing Ashok Chauhan. He said, “Very sorry to hear about the death of Ashok Chouhan at the hands of militants in South Kashmir. A bullet-riddled body of migrant worker has been recovered in Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir. The worker identified as 30-year-old, Ashok Chauhan was shot dead on Friday. His body with bullet injuries was recovered near the basin of Rimbiara River. He was a resident of Banka district in Bihar and use to sell maize in town of the district. Shopian SP Anayat Ali Choudhary informed that a bullet-riddled body was found. The body was spotted by the locals in Zainpora area of Shopian who then informed the police about it. 3-4 bullet marks were observed in his body.
According to Rising Kashmir reports, IGP Kashmir Zone, VK Birdi said that a case has been registered and investigation is underway. Colleagues of Ashok told that he had received a phone call while they were harvesting corn. He answered the call and left the area citing he had to go somewhere. When Ashok didn’t return, they started to search for him. They were later informed that his body has been found nearby an orchard. Police have suspected suspicious activity behind his killing.
It is reported to be the first suspected militant activity in the valley after Omar Abdullah took charge as Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister. Targeted killing is not a new activity in the valley. There have been reports of abduction and killing of locals by the terrorists, earlier also.
Last month, two Jawans of the Indian Army were abducted by the terrorists in Anantnag. While one soldier had managed to escape, the other one was killed. His body was recovered with gunshot wounds.
