Days after the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured a huge win in the 2025 Bihar state assembly elections, the state is all set to have a new government on Thursday, November 20, following the dissolution of the current government on November 19. While there is no official confirmation yet on who will become the next chief minister, speculation is strong that Nitish Kumar, Bihar’s longest-serving CM, will retain the top post.
Around 20 ministers are expected to take oath alongside the CM, with 6-7 ministers each from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and JD(U). According to PTI, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and several other top NDA leaders, including union ministers, are likely to attend the oath-taking ceremony.
Preparations underway for swearing-in at Gandhi Maidan
Preparations are in full swing for the swearing-in ceremony at Gandhi Maidan on November 20. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar personally visited the venue on Tuesday to inspect the arrangements. He reviewed the stage set up for the ceremony and checked the overall preparations in the area.
He was accompanied by Deputy CM Samrat Chaudhary, Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary, and Road Construction Minister Nitin Naveen. Chief Secretary Pratyay Amrit briefed him in detail about the arrangements. Before the CM’s visit, the Chief Secretary and DGP Vinay Kumar had also inspected security measures at Gandhi Maidan with the DM, SSP, and other officials of Patna. Security arrangements at Patna Airport were also reviewed.
Top leaders to attend the ceremony
The swearing-in ceremony will be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, several Union ministers, and chief ministers from other states. The event is expected to be a high-profile occasion, reflecting the NDA’s strong mandate in the state.
Nitish Kumar’s personal supervision of the preparations shows the importance being given to both the security and the ceremonial aspects of the event.
NDA Records Massive Win in Bihar Elections
The two main NDA constituents, BJP and JD(U), recorded a nearly 85% strike rate in the 101 seats each contested in Bihar. The BJP won 89 seats, up from 74 in 2020, while Nitish Kumar’s JD(U) secured 85 seats, almost doubling its previous tally of 43.
The opposition alliance Mahagathbandhan could win only 34 seats, with RJD winning 25 seats and the Congress managing just six of the 61 seats it contested. The results underline a strong mandate for the NDA in Bihar.
