Bihar: Students at Nalanda Engineering College, Chandi, on Wednesday, staged a protest after a girl student died after falling off a terrace. She was immediately rushed in an ambulance to VHC Chandi, where the doctors declared her dead. The deceased's body has been sent for a postmortem examination. Meanwhile, a police complaint was filed after her family members arrived at the spot.
Hilsa SDM Amit Kumar Pate told the media that a large number of students gathered to protest the girl's death. They were sent to hostels following an explanation of the situation. "People are reporting that the principal failed to take prompt action after the hour had passed, leading to the student's death. An investigation is ongoing on all angles. If negligence is identified, appropriate action will be taken in accordance with the regulations," SDM Kumar added. The circumstances that led to her death, however, remain unclear. It is yet to be ascertained whether it was an accident or a suicide.

According to the report, the engineering students resorted to violence following the tragic incident. Unrest was witnessed in Chandi Referral Hospital. The protesters torched a scooter and smashed the windows of a police vehicle. They also clashed with cops, who, in a bid to disperse them, beat and kicked them.
The students alleged that the Principal was negligent, and he refused to provide a college vehicle to take the girl to a hospital. She died due to the delay in immediate transport, they claimed. A probe is underway to find out the exact cause behind the student's death and the alleged negligence.
