Tarapur Assembly Election Result 2025: Bihar’s Tarapur seat in Munger district witnessed a fierce battle between BJP candidate & Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and RJD candidate Arun Kumar. After 30 rounds of counting, Samrat Choudhary emerged victorious by winning with a margin of 1.22 lakh votes, while his opponent Kumar trailed by 45,820 votes in the final round.
Samrat Choudhary, the BJP’s state chief and a key OBC face, contested the election after 15 years from Tarapur, one of the key battlegrounds central to his political comeback. The initial rounds of counting showed Samrat taking the lead. He remained ahead by approximately 6,000 votes through five rounds of counting. As the rounds progressed, Samrat’s margin increased significantly.
Samrat Choudhary’s Political Journey
Samrat Chaudhary’s father, Shakuni Chaudhary, and his mother, Parvati Devi, have both represented the Tarapur constituency in the past. Shakuni won the seat six consecutive times (1985 to 2005). Meanwhile, Samrat Chaudhary began his political journey in 1990. In 1995, he was imprisoned for 89 days in a political case.
He became Agriculture Minister during the Rabri government in 1999 and was later elected MLA from Parbatta in 2000 and 2010. He served as Urban Development Minister in 2014. In 2018, he left the RJD and joined the BJP, later becoming the Minister of Panchayati Raj in the NDA government. After a long hiatus, he has turned the tables by winning the Tarapur seat.
2020 Tarapur Election Result
In the 2020 Bihar Assembly Elections, the seat was won by Mewa Lal Choudhary of the JD(U), who secured 64,468 votes, accounting for a vote share of 36.93%. He defeated Divya Prakash of the RJD, who received 57,243 votes, by a margin of 7,225 votes. Following the 2020 elections, a government was formed under Nitish Kumar, with the NDA alliance winning 125 seats, while RJD+ secured 110 seats, LJP won 1 seat, and other parties accounted for 7 seats.
