Karakat: Independent candidate Jyoti Singh, wife of Bhojpuri actor Pawan Singh, is trailing in the Karakat Assembly constituency as counting continues.
As of 7 pm, after 18 rounds of counting (with 13 more to go), she has secured 23,469 votes, placing her in third position.
She is trailing by 50,688 votes behind Mahabali Singh of JD(U), who is leading, while Arun Singh of CPI(ML) Liberation is slightly ahead of Jyoti Singh.
The Karakat seat witnessed a multi-cornered contest, with Mahabali Singh (JD(U)), Arun Singh (CPI-ML Liberation), and Yogendra Singh (Jan Suraaj) as key contenders.
Jyoti Singh’s independent entry came after a meeting with political strategist Prashant Kishor, though details of the discussion remain private. Her campaign also gained attention due to a public dispute with her husband, Pawan Singh, over candidacy and personal issues.
Pawan Singh, who was dropped by BJP last year, eventually withdrew from the race.
Meanwhile, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is set to achieve a landslide victory in Bihar, projected to win over 202 of the 243 assembly seats.
The Opposition Mahagathbandhan’s attempt to regain power fell short, with early trends revealing weaknesses in their strategy and voter base.
Voting in Karakat and other Rohtas district seats iincluding Chenari, Sasaram, Kargahar, Dinara, Nokha, and Dehri was held on November 11.
Counting continues across the state as the NDA’s lead strengthens.
