At least five Kanwariyas were killed and four others injured late Sunday night in a road accident in Bihar’s Bhagalpur district. The group of nine devotees was traveling in a pickup truck when the tragic incident occurred. According to reports, the accident happened after a DJ music system installed on the vehicle’s roof came into contact with a live electric wire, causing the vehicle to overturn into a roadside canal.
The mishap took place on the Shahkund-Sultanganj road, when the Kanwariyas were heading to Jayesthgaur Nathsthan on the occasion of the fourth and last Monday of Shrawan. Bhagalpur SSP Hridyakant said, ” A DJ vehicle hit an electric wire and overturned. Five people died on the spot. Efforts are underway to provide financial assistance to the deceased’s families.” According to eyewitnesses, the tragedy occurred around 12:05 am near Belthu’s Mahto place.
At the time of the incident, nine devotees were traveling via the DJ vehicle while other Kanwariyas were traveling on foot. To save themselves, a few of them jumped 30 feet below into the water. However, the pickup truck overturned and fell on top of them.
