Bihar: 12-Year-Old Boy Shot Dead In Sleep, Father Critically Injured In Araria

Local residents expressed frustration over the delayed police action. They alleged that despite repeated calls to the police station for over an hour, no officer responded.

In a shocking incident, unidentified assailants shot at a man and killed his 12-year-old son while they were sleeping in the verandah of their house. The incident took place on Sunday and was reported from the Mahalgonj area of Araria district in Bihar. The minor boy died on the spot, while his father sustained critical injuries and has been admitted to a private hospital in Purnia. The victims have been identified as Maujasin (40) and his son, Abu Aurera (12).

According to the police, the incident occurred in Kakorwa, Ward No. 9, within the limits of the Mahalgonj police station, around 12:30 am on July 6. Reportedly, the attackers entered the premises of their house and opened fire. The twelve-year-old was shot in the head and died at the moment, while his father suffered a bullet injury to his arm.

The injured was rushed to the Araria Sadar Hospital, where he received initial treatment and was then referred to Purnia Government Medical College Hospital. However, the family chose to admit him to a private hospital due to severity of his injuries.

What Did The Police Say?

Upon receiving the information, Mahalgonj SHO Rajesh Kumar, with a police patrolling team, reached the spot and began investigation. Sadar Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rampukar Singh stated that the motive behind the attack is unclear and further investigation is underway.

“The cause of the attack is still unclear. Once the injured father regains stability and can provide a statement, we hope to get more clarity. Scientific and technical methods are being employed in the investigation, and we are confident the culprits will be nabbed soon,” said SDPO Singh.

It was only after contacting a woman officer, they received patrolling unit’s contact number and the investigation began.
