What did police confirm about Umar Nabi Bhat and i20 car?
Reports suggest that the police and forensic teams confirmed late Wednesday night that the person inside the explosive-laden Hyundai i20 was none other than the accused Dr Umar Nabi, also known as Umar Mohammed. DNA tests on the charred body recovered from the wreckage showed a 100% match with samples taken from Umar’s family members. The findings confirm that Umar was behind the Delhi car blast, which claimed 12 lives and left 20 others injured.
How did Police confirm?
Investigating agencies had suspected from the beginning that the attacker was Dr Umar, who had purchased the white Hyundai i20 car used in the attack just 11 days before the blast. He was a key member of a white-collar terror module in Faridabad and was on the run. The Delhi Police Special Cell interrogated Umar’s family, a resident of Sambura, Pulwama. Umar’s mother and brother provided DNA samples, which matched the remains (bones, teeth, and pieces of clothing) found in the wreckage of the car used in the blast. This made them confirmed that Umar was the driver.
