After Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar removed the hijab of a woman doctor, the controversial episode upset her, and she is now likely not to join the service.
‘Doctor is upset with the incident’
The woman doctor Nusrat Parveen’s brother said she is upset over the matter and it is highly likely that she will not join her service. The AYUSH practitioner is scheduled to join government service on December 20.
According to News18, Nusrat’s brother, who is a professor at a government law university in Kolkata, said she is adamant about not joining the service despite family members trying to convince her. He further said that he asked her not to feel bad after the incident, as it was not her fault.
Nitish had removed her hijab
The Bihar Chief Minister had removed her hijab during the distribution of appointment letters at a ceremony. A video of the incident went viral on social media.
Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary, who was present on the stage, attempted to stop the chief minister from behind by moving his hand. Bihar’s Minority Minister Zama Khan said Nitish Kumar showed his love for a Muslim daughter, as he wanted the woman’s face to be seen by society after she became successful in her life.
Political slugfest begins
A political slugfest began after the episode, as the opposition party Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) raised the issue, terming the chief minister “unfit” for the post.
‘Nitish has worked to strengthen women’s power’
When asked about Nusrat Parveen’s decision not to join her posting, Bihar Health Minister Mangal Pandey said he is not aware of any such information suggesting that she has decided not to join. While supporting Nitish Kumar, he said the chief minister has always worked to strengthen women’s power and has consistently upheld the dignity and respect of women.
