New Delhi: Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge will file his nomination for the party’s Presidential election today. Mr Kharge, the Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha, will file his nomination for the October 17 election today as the third candidate alongside Digvijaya Singh and Shashi Tharoor, sources said.

Digvijay Singh & Shashi Tharoor will be contesting

Shashi Tharoor and Digvijay Singh is also expected to file their nominations today, the last day of applications for the election that seems headed for a three-cornered contest. The deadline for applications for the contest is 3 pm.

Former Madhya Pradesh CM Digvijay Singh said on Thursday that he will contest for the post of president. Digvijay reached Congress office in Delhi. On Thursday, he said, “I have come here to collect the nomination form and will file my nomination tomorrow.”

Ashok Gehlot refuses to fight the contest

Earlier, Ashok Gehlot had announced to step down as CM in order to run for the chief post.

CM Gehlot added that he had decided to contest Congress’ chief polls after Rahul Gandhi denied to accept the post. However, he changed his decision after the mass resignation of MLAs.

More than 80 MLAs, loyalists of Gehlot, had submitted their resignation to the Assembly Speaker CP Joshi at his residence.

They all protested the candidature of Sachin Pilot for CM.
