New Delhi: Two  Indian Air Force fighter jets — Sukhoi-30 and Mirage 2000— were crashed on Saturday near Morena in Madhya Pradesh. Search and rescue efforts have started. The administrated said that both the pilots who sustained injuries were rescued safely.

The video was taken by the locals which shows debris of the aircraft were laying on the ground. Both the aircrafts were taken off from the Gwalior Air Force base. Defence source said that the search and rescue operations has been started.

“A Sukhoi-30 and Mirage 2000 aircraft have crashed near Morena, Madhya Pradesh. Search and rescue operations have been launched,” defence sources said. A court of inquiry has been appointed by the IAF to determine if a mid-air contact caused the incident.

Sources added, “The two aircraft took off from the Gwalior air base in MP where an exercise was going on.”

According to Morena Collector, the collision occurred at 5.30 am. He claimed that the SU-30’s pilots safely escaped from the aircraft with just minor injuries.

The cause of the crash is still unclear, according to Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) Adarsh Katiyar, who spoke with PTI.

According to him, three pilots safely ejected, but the third is still missing.

Two pilots are safe  

During the crash, the Su-30 had two pilots while the Mirage 2000 only had one. Initial reports indicate that both pilots are secure, and IAF helicopter is en route to the third pilot’s location, according to defence sources.

“The IAF has ordered a court of inquiry to establish whether there was a mid-air collision or not. The Su-30 had 2 pilots while Mirage 2000 had one pilot during the crash. Initial reports suggest 2 pilots are safe while an IAF chopper reaching the location of the 3rd pilot soon,” defence sources said.

Defence Minister Brief

Rajnath Singh, the defence minister, assessed the situation, spoke with VR Chaudhari, the head of the IAF, and is continuing to keep an eye on it.

“Rajnath Singh was briefed by the Chief of Air Staff on the crash of two aircraft of the Indian Air Force. The defence minister enquired about the well-being of the IAF pilots and is monitoring the developments closely,” defence sources told India Today.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan, the chief minister of Madhya Pradesh, expressed sorrow over the accident and gave instructions for prompt rescue efforts.

“The news of crash of Sukhoi-30 and Mirage-2000 aircraft of the Air Force near Kolaras in Morena is very sad. I have instructed the local administration to cooperate with the Air Force in quick rescue and relief work. I pray to God that the pilots of the planes are safe,” he tweeted.
