Bharat Jodo Yatra: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said on Friday that the police arrangement “totally disintegrated” during the Bharat Jodo Yatra in Jammu and Kashmir, forcing him to “cancel” his trek.

Senior congressional lawmakers also said that security was “mishandled by concerned authorities” on Friday. Jammu and Kashmir Police, on the other hand, rejected complaints of security lapses in the Bharat Jodo Yatra, which entered the Valley on Friday. The Police stated preparations had been taken to guarantee the greatest possible security for the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra, and organisers and management had not been informed about a large crowd from Banihal joining the Yatra, which had gathered near the starting point.

Rahul Gandhi, according to BJP leader Gaurav Bhatia, has made false claims against security services.

“It has been Rahul Gandhi’s practise to level unfounded accusations. He brought false claims against the Kashmir Police. “It appears to be cheap politics,” he remarked.

Rahul Gandhi, speaking briefly at a press conference in Khanabal, Anantnag, said there was a large gathering and it was critical that the police manage it.

“This morning, we had quite a huge throng gathering, and we were looking forward to walking on the Bharat Jodo Yatra, but unfortunately, the police arrangement entirely collapsed, and the police people who were supposed to supervise the crowd and hold the rope were nowhere to be found,” Gandhi remarked.

“As a result, my security personnel were really concerned about me walking further on the yatra. As a result, I had to cancel my walk. Of course, the other yatris walked. I believe it is critical that the police regulate the throng so that we can complete the yatra. “It’s difficult for me to go against what my security people advise,” he added.

The Jammu and Kashmir administration stated that the throng was larger than expected.

RK Goyal, Additional Chief Secretary (FC), Home Department of Jammu and Kashmir, said at a news conference that the administration is acutely aware of security concerns and that all efforts have been taken to ensure the best possible security for the ongoing Bharat Jodo Yatra.
