In Banashankari, Bengaluru, a young man faced serious consequences after refusing to accept dinner brought from his in-laws’ home at his wife’s insistence. Enraged, the woman attacked her husband with scissors, causing severe injuries to his jaw, hand, and back. To save himself, he had to flee his home and seek refuge with his in-laws. The police registered a case against the accused wife, Nalini, under IPC sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), and 506 (criminal intimidation).

Suresh, a 37-year-old resident of Tamil Nadu, runs a hotel in Rajarajeshwari Nagar, Bengaluru. About four years ago, he met Nalini through a mutual friend. They fell in love and married in 2021. After their wedding, the couple started living in Banashankari, Bengaluru, near Nalini’s parental home, which is located in the same building vicinity as their residence. On the night of June 26th, at 11:30 pm, an argument escalated between the spouses to the point where Suresh had to flee home to save himself, leading to the involvement of the police.

Suresh told the police that on June 26th, he went to the park with his wife Nalini, and their young son. At 9 pm, he left them at home and went to a nearby bar-restaurant. After drinking and having dinner there, he returned home. While he was resting on the sofa, his wife Nalini came back from her parents’ place with food. Since Suresh had already eaten at the hotel, he refused to eat the dinner brought from her parental home. Nalini also returned utensils after dinner. Suresh did not take this incident seriously.

At 11:30 pm, the situation suddenly escalated when the wife became furious. Before going to shower, she began reprimanding her husband for not eating food. Nalini was upset that Suresh criticized her for cooking, claiming he preferred his mother’s cooking over hers. During the argument, when Suresh pushed her mother, Nalini attacked him, causing him to bleed from the head. She grabbed scissors and assaulted her husband, who was sitting on the sofa. Suresh sustained injuries to his hand during the attack.

When he attempted to flee from home, she stabbed him in the back with a scissors. Injured, Suresh somehow reached his in-laws’ place and complained to Nalini’s mother. His mother-in-law scolded him too, saying he could complain to the police about it. He then went to a hospital for treatment and filed a report against his wife on June 28th. Following this altercation, Nalini also lodged a report against her husband at the Basavanagudi Women’s Police Station. According to the police, both were summoned for questioning, where they leveled accusations against each other. After counseling, they were both sent home.
