Bengaluru: A 31-year-old techie was mowed down by a cement truck on Thursday. The deceased identified as Sai Raj Balgundi was riding two-wheeler when a speeding truck struck him leading to his death. Reportedly, Sai was changing his direction to avoid the open rainwater manhole on Gear school road behind Cessna Business Park in Kadubeesanahalli. He was driving on a normal speed. The incident occurred around 5:30 AM on Thursday. HAL Airport Traffic Police have booked the truck driver and notified the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) administration about the open manhole.
An eyewitness told to TOI that Sai was riding on a normal speed and as soon as he saw a rectangular duct, placed a little lower than the road surface level, he tried to avoid it. A speeding trailer truck then hit him and dragged the body and the bike for 25 feet. The driver left the vehicle and fled from the spot while the guy on the scooter died on the spot.
According to the people, concerns about open potholes and drain in areas were already raised. Ummamahesh, a software engineer and resident of Panathur had written about this issue to ward committee few months ago but the status remained pending.
