Bengaluru was severely impacted by continuous rainfall on Tuesday, leading to water-logging and traffic congestion in several parts of the city. As a result, the weather department issued an orange alert, prompting schools to be shut for the following day and companies to recommend their employees work from home.

Orange Alert Issued by IMD
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) placed Bengaluru on an orange alert, warning residents about the increased rainfall intensity. Heavy downpours that began early Tuesday caused significant waterlogging and traffic disruptions in key areas like Varthur, Hebbal, and Kadubeesanahalli. Major tech zones, including Manyata Tech Park on Outer Ring Road (ORR) and Sarjapur, also experienced traffic issues.
Traffic Disruptions and Water-Logging
The Hebbal flyover, leading towards KR Puram, was temporarily closed due to water-logging but was reopened after the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) cleared the flooded areas. Water accumulation at Allasandra Main Road in Yelahanka zone was also addressed by BBMP teams.
Schools Shut, Colleges Open with Guidelines
While schools and anganwadi centers in Bengaluru district were ordered closed, colleges remained open. Principals of higher education institutions, including degree, post-graduation, and diploma colleges, were provided with safety guidelines to ensure student well-being. Schools were asked to conduct online classes for senior grades, while younger students were given assignments to complete at home.
BBMP Sets Up 24/7 Control Rooms
In response to the heavy rains, the BBMP established 24/7 control rooms across its eight zones and launched a helpline number (1533) for citizens to report rain-related problems. Additionally, several trees were uprooted due to the storms, with one blocking the Ashoka Pillar road temporarily until it was cleared.

Widespread Rainfall Triggered by Low Pressure Area
According to the IMD, a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal has been identified as the cause of the widespread rainfall. Besides Bengaluru, the IMD has also issued a yellow alert for worsening weather in the districts of Tumakuru, Mysuru, Kodagu, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kolar, Shivamogga, Chikkaballapura, and coastal Karnataka, warning of potential disruptions to daily life.
