Bengaluru Reports First Confirmed Dengue Death; State Tally Reaches 5,374 Cases And Five Deaths

According to officials, Bengaluru reported its first confirmed Dengue-related death on Saturday, amidst rising cases and a statewide death toll of five as of June 24.

According to Dr. Syed Sirajuddin Madni, Chief Health Officer of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, the patient was admitted to Manipal Hospital on June 25 with fever and died from severe dengue and multiple organ dysfunction syndrome on June 27. A senior official reported that Bengaluru, the capital of Karnataka, recorded its first confirmed death from Dengue on Saturday. The victim, a 27-year-old from CV Raman Nagar, passed away at Manipal Hospital on June 27.

Following the reporting of two suspected deaths due to dengue on Friday in Bengaluru, the civic body decided to conduct a death audit today to determine the cause of death. “We have received reports. One of the two suspected deaths due to dengue has been confirmed, marking the first dengue-related fatality in Bengaluru since January,” he stated.

The official confirmed that the 80-year-old woman, a native of Tamil Nadu who had breast and colon cancer and displayed symptoms of dengue, did not die from dengue.

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah directed officials to prioritize the detection and treatment of the viral infection as dengue cases continue to be reported in the state. Since January, Bengaluru has recorded 1,743 cases of dengue. The chief minister’s office reported a total of 5,374 cases and five deaths in the state until June 24.
