Bengaluru police have identified the prime suspect in the murder of a woman whose dismembered body was found stored in a refrigerator in her home. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the suspect, according to City Police Commissioner B Dayanand.

The victim, Mahalakshmi, lived alone in a single-bedroom house in Bengaluru. Police found her body cut into around 30 pieces, decomposed and infested with worms, indicating she may have been murdered at least two weeks earlier. Mahalakshmi, originally from another state, worked in a mall while her husband lives in a different city.

Police have gathered significant evidence and clues. State Home Minister G Parameshwara confirmed that the suspect is from West Bengal, but refrained from sharing more details. “The prime suspect has been identified and efforts are underway to arrest him,” said Commissioner Dayanand, adding that revealing more information could aid the suspect.

The gruesome incident has led to a political row, with the Opposition BJP criticizing the Congress-led government in Karnataka. The BJP accused the government of failing to maintain law and order, highlighting the murder as an example of the state’s declining security under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s leadership.
