Bengaluru Metro Fares To Soar By 40-45% After 8 Years, Maximum Ticket Price To Hit Rs 85: Report

Bengaluru's Namma Metro is likely to increase its rates by 40-45%, as per media reports. According to Deccan Herald, this came after the recommendations from the three-member panel of government.

The fare fixation committee consists of Retired Justice R Tharani, Retired IAS officer from Karnataka EV Ramana Reddy, and additional Secretary of the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs Satinder Pal Singh. According to Deccan Herald, the committee submitted its reports to the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited board.

The committee took the feedback from the public between October 2 to 28, 2024. The committed submitted the report last week. According to reports, this hike will be after 8 years.

Following the analysis done by the committee, they suggested a hike of 40 to 45%, as per media reports. The current fare is Rs 60, and as per the reports, the base fare will see a jump to around Rs 15. On the other end, the maximum price will be about Rs 85.

To reduce the impact of this a certain discount will be given during the high time of the metro and on Sundays. The commuters who will be using QR tickets and the smartcard will be getting a 5% discount. According to reports, the new fare will come into execution from January end.
