Bengaluru Imposes Liquor Ban for 5 Days in June Amid Elections, Dates Announced

In early June, Bengaluru will experience several dry days due to the Karnataka Legislative Council elections and the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. Liquor sales will be banned from June 1 to June 3 for the MLC elections and from June 3 to June 4 for the Lok Sabha vote counting.

The sale of liquor in Bengaluru will be prohibited for several days in early June due to the Karnataka Legislative Council elections and the Lok Sabha Elections 2024. The MLC elections are scheduled for June 3, with vote counting on June 6. To ensure a smooth electoral process, liquor sales will be banned from 4 pm on June 1 until June 3rd, as reported by Asianet.

 Liquor Ban for Lok Sabha Elections

Simultaneously, the Lok Sabha Elections 2024 vote counting will take place on June 4. Consequently, a liquor ban will be enforced from 12 am on June 3 to 12 am on June 4. On the vote counting day, all establishments selling alcohol, including shops, bars, hotels, restaurants, and taverns, will remain closed. However, restaurants and hotels can still serve food and non-alcoholic beverages during this period.

Additional Restrictions on June 6

Following the announcement of the Lok Sabha Elections results, a further ban on liquor sales will be implemented on June 6 due to the MLC elections results.

June 6: MLC Election result

During these dates, all wine stores, bars, hotels, restaurants, pubs, clubs, or any other private places selling liquor must remain closed. Hotels and restaurants will only be allowed to sell food. According to the order, strict action will be taken in case of violations.

‘I, the Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate, Bangalore City District, Bangalore, in exercise of the powers conferred by section 135(c) of the Karnataka Excise Statutes (General Clauses) Rules, 1967 Rule-10(b) of the Government and Representation of the People Act, 1951 from Date of Poll: 24-04-2024 5.00 PM to Date: 26-04-2024 12.00 midnight and counting date: 03-06-2024 12.00 midnight to 12.00 midnight on 04-06-2024 throughout Bangalore City District (except Police Commissionerate Area) implement and order to ban all types of liquor production, sale, distribution, transportation, storage etc. and declared as ‘Dry Days,” the order issued by Bengaluru city police commissioner, B Dayananda, stated according to Mint.
