Two teenage sisters, Srushti (14) and Soni (16), were tragically murdered in their home in Bengaluru on Saturday, with police suspecting their stepfather, Mohan, as the perpetrator. According to authorities, Mohan allegedly killed the girls with a machete before fleeing the scene.
Family Tensions and Motive for Murder
The girls’ mother, Anita, had been married to Mohan for three years, a relationship marked by frequent arguments. Police described Mohan as having anger management issues and being easily provoked. According to Anita, the motive behind the murder was Mohan’s extreme opposition to the girls interacting with boys at school. She stated that Mohan did not even want them sitting next to boys, a stance that caused significant tension within the family.
Anita recounted the horrific scene: “When I entered, I saw a pool of blood. My daughters’ throats had been slit.” She explained that Mohan was fixated on the idea of keeping the girls away from boys, despite her attempts to reason with him. “I questioned him, saying, ‘If you can talk to other women, why can’t children speak to kids of the opposite gender?’ But he insisted the girls should be kept separate from the boys,” she added.

Stepfather Identified as Primary Suspect
CCTV footage has confirmed that Mohan was the only person seen entering and leaving the house, making him the prime suspect in the case, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) North East, Sajeeth VJ.
Background of the Family
Anita, who is originally from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh, divorced her first husband a decade ago. Her ex-husband, who is the biological father of their daughters, currently resides in Dubai. Three years ago, Anita relocated to Bengaluru, where she met Mohan on the Shaadi.com website, and they eventually got married.
The investigation is ongoing, as police search for Mohan, who is currently on the run.
