A 34-year-old former president of Pavagada panchayat in Bengaluru allegedly died by suicide after killing her four-year-old son over a dowry demand and harassment on Monday, police said.
The deceased has been identified as Shruthi GK, who was the president of the Grama Panchayat (GP) in Pavagada, Tumakuru, and a resident of MS Ramaiah Layout, Nagasandra. She is survived by her husband Gopal Krishna, an auditor, with their eight-year-old son and four-year-old daughter.
On Sunday around 6pm, police found mother-daughter bodies in the first-floor room. At the time of the incident, her son was sleeping on the ground floor and her husband was out for work.
A case under sections 85 (cruelty by husband or relatives), 108 (abetment of suicide), and 351 (criminal intimidation), 352 (intentional insult to provoke a breach of peace) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act was registered at Bagalagunte police station.
Senior police officers said the investigation revealed that she was harassed over the suspicion of an extramarital affair. Investigators said she allegedly sent a message to her husband before taking the extreme step. However, no suicide note has been recovered.
