West Bengal: Beaches in West Bengal have been evacuated due to cyclonic storm ‘Sitrang’. The administration issued an advisory prohibiting tourists and other people from going near the beaches. All local shops have been closed.

Disaster Management Officer Anmol Sasmor said that the country is fully prepared for the cyclone. According to the information, many districts including Kolkata remained cloudy on Sunday. Light rain occurred at many places in East Midnapore. ‘Sitrang’ can cause heavy destruction in the coastal areas of Bengal, especially in the Sundarbans.

At the same time, teams of civil defense have been deployed to deal with the ‘Sitrang’ cyclone at Bakkhali beach of South 24 Parganas. Cyclone Sitarang was about 300 km south-east of Sagar Island in West Bengal at 11.30 am today. The cyclone may intensify into a severe cyclonic storm early in the morning on October 25. According to the IMD, the cyclone is likely to make landfall between Tincona Island and Sandvip in Bangladesh on Tuesday morning.

Earlier this morning it rained lightly. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a risk of heavy rain and storms in the cyclone.
