According to a source, West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose filed a defamation lawsuit against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee at the Calcutta High Court on Friday. This followed her statement that women had expressed fear about visiting Raj Bhavan due to its activities.
Earlier in the day, Bose condemned Banerjee’s remarks, emphasizing that public representatives should refrain from making ‘incorrect and defamatory statements.’
According to the source, the Governor of Bengal also initiated a defamation lawsuit against specific TMC leaders for making comparable statements.
During a state secretariat meeting on Thursday, Mamata Banerjee expressed that women had informed her about their fear of visiting Raj Bhavan due to recent reported incidents.

According to PTI sources, Governor CV Ananda Bose filed a defamation suit against Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her party leaders on Friday. This follows allegations of molestation by Bose made by a contractual woman employee of Raj Bhavan on May 2, prompting a probe by the Kolkata Police.
When approached for comment, TMC Rajya Sabha MP Dola Sen stated that she would refrain from discussing the matter until consulting with party leadership.
‘I need to consult with my party leadership to ascertain the details. This matter is quite sensitive,’ Sen told PTI.
Senior BJP leader Rahul Sinha endorsed Bose’s decision, stating, ‘Governor Bose has made the right call. This decision should have been made long ago. I fully support him.’

CPI(M) veteran Sujan Chakraborty expressed concern over the ongoing conflict between Bose and Banerjee, stating, ‘This is detrimental to the state. They appear to have disregarded their constitutional duties, tarnishing West Bengal’s national reputation.’
