After the city of Indore, Bhopal has also banned begging across all public places in the city. Madhya Pradesh’s Bhopal district collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh issued an prohibitory order under section 163 of the Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sahita (BNSS) 2023. The order clearly warned that a legal action will be taken against who violates the issued order.
In the issued order, the administration of Bhopal said that it has been brought to their notice that people are engaged in begging at traffic signals, crossings, religious places and tourist places. In the order, the administration said that people of other states were also involved in begging with criminal records.
The administration claimed that criminal elements are also involved in begging and they commit offenses under the garb of begging. In the order, the administration stressed on accidents at traffic signals due to begging.
Provisions with action, the administration clearly mandated that people should not buy goods or offering alms at traffic signals and an individual will face legal action if anyone violates the order.
“Under section 163 of BNSS 2023, begging is completely banned within the entire revenue boundary area of Bhopal district. Giving anything as alms to beggars or buying any kind of goods from them is prohibited. Legal action will be taken against the person who gives anything or buys any goods from them for violation of this order,” it added.
“The order will be effective with immediate effect under section 163 (2) of the BNSS and action will be taken against the person violating this order under Section 223 of the BNSS 2023,” it stated.
