The administration did not allow the documentary to be screened inside the university. For this, the administration cut off the electricity in the premises. Before this SFI had also shown the controversial documentary twice in Presidency University. The administration had also cut off the electricity twice to prevent SFI from going to screen the documentary. There was a lot of ruckus about this.

Supreme Court seeks reply in two weeks

A hearing was held in the Supreme Court on Friday regarding the ban on the documentary. The court  has sent a notice to the Central Government in this matter and has ordered to submit the original documents.

A bench of Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice MM Sundresh issued notice to the government and others on petitions filed by N Ram, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra and social activist advocate Prashant Bhushan.

The court also issued notice to another petitioner, advocate ML Sharma. The apex court also directed the Center to produce the original records relating to the recall of the order. The bench said that we are issuing notice. Rejoinder affidavit to be filed within three weeks. Thereafter reply should be given within two weeks. The next hearing of the case will be in April.

PM Modi’s role was investigated in the documentary

The petitioners claimed that the documentary examined the 2002 Gujarat riots and the role of PM Modi (BBC Documentary). The petition said that there are many facts related to the people who failed to stop the riots in the documentary. The petitioners claimed that it has been banned under Rule 16 of the IT Rules 2021.

The petition has also demanded an inquiry into those responsible for the riots. ML Sharma said that both the episodes of the documentary should be investigated. The petition demanded that appropriate action be taken against those responsible for the riots.
