New Delhi: Over a dozen of activists including few members of a left-wing group have been detained on Wednesday after the Students' Federation of India (SFI) called for a screening of the  ‘India: The Modi Question’ this evening in Jamia Millia Islamia campus. The Delhi Police arrested a few students this afternoon, hours before the screening of the controversial film. After which, a protest broke out in solidarity of the detainees, following a huge ruckus at the prestigious varsity. The police have not revealed the location of the detainees despite many attempts to know from 'comrades'. Earlier in the day, the university made it clear that no screening would be allowed in the campus but the student activists persisted to go on with the plan. The varsity in an official notification said, "The university reiterates that no meeting of students or screening of any film will be allowed in the campus without permission. University is taking all measures to prevent people/orgs having vested interest to destroy peaceful academic atmosphere here."

Centre Calls It A Propaganda 

The controversial film is based on the tenure of PM Narendra Modi as Cheif Minister in Gujarat during the riots played out in 2022, resulting in a mass execution. The documentary did not go well with the Centre who asked every social media site to take down the link to stop its streaming. Several in the central government said that the documentary is mere a propaganda while the Opposition has slammed it as a blatant move. JNU Screening Halted, Students Watched Films On Personal Devices 

This comes after the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union also decided to screen the documentary in the campus which ultimately led to protest at midnight. As students were 'frevently' waiting to watch the controversial documentary together, the power went off barely half an hours before the screening. The internet was also shut down in the campus after groups of students huddled up to watch the film in their laptops and mobile phones. The protestors called it a deliberate blackout while the Union Eductaion Ministry entirely dismissed the claims saying that it was a massive power failure.
