Three boys doing BBA involved in an online e-commerce and marketing business were assaulted at the West District Cyber Police Station. They were threatened with jail for OTP fraud and extorted for ₹19.5 lakh. Following an investigation, the Vigilance Department has filed a case against Sub Inspector Brijesh Redu, Head Constable Satish Kumar, and Anil Yadav for extortion under Section 384 of the IPC and Section 7 of the Anti-Corruption Act.

The 19-year-old boy from East Delhi is studying BBA at a well-known university and also runs a part-time online e-commerce and marketing business. During a Vigilance investigation, he said he was at his office on March 10, 2023, when he received a call from Tilak Nagar police station about a delivery boy being caught. It was reported that ₹27,000 had been stolen after calling the customer’s number from the courier company. The case was then handed over to the West District Cyber Police Station in Hari Nagar. The boy alleged that Sub Inspector Brijesh Redu and other officers verbally abused and beat them, threatening them with 10 years in prison for the OTP fraud. All three started crying in front of the officers. SI Brijesh allegedly demanded ₹25 lakh, which they agreed to due to fear, but later he increased the demand to ₹40 lakh.

The policemen allegedly went to the victim’s house with his brother to collect the money, taking ₹7.5 lakh from there. All three were held at the police station and told to bring the remaining amount the next day. Meanwhile, the victim’s father filed a missing persons report for his son and his brother at Mandavali police station in East Delhi.

The police then pressured the father to withdraw the complaint. The next day, the father paid the remaining amount, totaling ₹19.5 lakh. Afterward, the victim was released, but the SI continued to demand more money.

The victim’s father answered a call where the SI talked about going to the media and senior officers. The SI then hung up the phone. Following this, a false case was allegedly filed against the three at the cyber police station.

The victims claimed that when handing over the case to SI Brijesh, the inspector mentioned it was a good case and had been involved from the start. The victims reported the situation to the DCP West, presenting several pieces of evidence, including CCTV footage. After a Vigilance inquiry, a case was registered against the three policemen on July 10, 2024. The inspector was not named in the FIR.
