Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath stressed the importance of national unity during a Janmashtami event in Agra, where he unveiled a statue of Rashtraveer Durgadas Rathore. He highlighted that the strength of the nation relies on staying together and warned against the dangers of division, citing the Bangladesh crisis as an example of what can happen when unity is lost.

Adityanath emphasized that unity is essential for the nation’s strength and urged citizens to avoid making the same mistakes that led to the crisis in Bangladesh.

Akhilesh Yadav’s Reaction

Samajwadi Party chief and MP Akhilesh Yadav responded to Yogi Adityanath’s remarks, suggesting that they hinted at ambitions for the Prime Minister’s position. He stated that this was not the first time Adityanath had made such suggestions and expressed hope that officials in Delhi would address the issue.

Bangladesh Unrest

The UP chief minister’s statement follows reports of turmoil in the Bangla-speaking nation, which fell into a political crisis on August 5 after its prime minister, Sheikh Hasina, resigned and left the country.

Attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh

Reports have emerged of widespread attacks on the Hindu community, which makes up 8% of Bangladesh’s population. Hindu temples have been vandalized, and properties owned by community members have been targeted by mobs.

Historically, Hindus have supported Sheikh Hasina’s Awami League, the party that led the country’s liberation movement in 1971. The Bangladesh Hindu Buddhist Christian Unity Council, a minority rights group, informed AFP on August 16 that there have been 200 attacks on Hindus since the Awami League leader left the country.
