Bareilly Violence- How many arrested so far?
Bareilly SP City Manush Parekh stated that violence broke out in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh, on September 26, 2025. Following Friday prayers, a peaceful protest under the “I Love Muhammad” campaign turned violent, with stone-pelting, attacks on police, and arson. Police responded with a lathi charge to suppress the protesters. Taking action in the case, the police have so far registered 10 FIRs against 180 named and 2,500 unidentified accused.
So far, 73 people have been arrested, including the main accused, Maulana Tauqeer Raza, and former district president Nadeem Khan. Under the National Security Act, the NSA can investigate the violence. A 10-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to investigate, examining CCTV footage, CDRs, and other evidence. Bulldozers are being carried out on illegal properties owned by Tauqeer Raza’s associates, as well as investigating benami properties.
How the Bareilly violence was instigated
Former district president Nadeem Khan stated that he posted a message on the Ittehad-e-Millat Council’s official WhatsApp group a day before the violence. Police consider this as inciting a mob for violence. On September 25th, a peace appeal was made on the council’s letterhead, stating that the Bareilly administration had denied permission for a meeting at Islamia Inter College. Nadeem stated that the council’s peace appeal was fake.
