Jammu And Kashmir: In a significant political development, former leaders of the banned Jamaat-e-Islami Jammu and Kashmir (JEI) have announced the formation of a new political party, the Jammu Kashmir Justice Development Front (JKJDF). The announcement was made during a workers’ convention held in Kulgam district, a region known for its historical support of the JEI. The newly formed party aims to unify former JEI members who previously contested elections as independents.
They have already submitted an application to the Election Commission seeking official recognition and an election symbol. Shameem Ahmad, the president of JKJDF and a former JEI member, expressed optimism about the new political movement. Shameem emphasized that the JKJDF seeks to establish a transparent governance model that prioritizes the needs of the people over empty promises.
Another prominent figure in the party, Sayir Reshi, who also ran for office in the last assembly elections, highlighted the party’s vision. “Our goal is to create a political framework grounded in justice and genuine development,” he said. The leaders noted that their lack of formal registration during the last elections limited their ability to contest under a unified banner. However, with the establishment of JKJDF, they are poised to participate actively in future local body elections.
“We are committed to selecting educated representatives from various regions who will advocate for their communities and combat social evils,” Reshi added confidently. The JKJDF plans to officially launch its campaign from Srinagar in the coming weeks, aiming to galvanize support across Jammu and Kashmir. When Jammu and Kashmir navigates its complex political landscape, the emergence of the Jammu Kashmir Justice Development Front signals a new chapter for former JEI members and their supporters, who are struggling to make the entry into the region’s mainstream political arena, since the JEI has been banned in J&K.
