All banks in India will be open on Saturday, March 15, 2024, because it’s the third Saturday of the month. The Reserve Bank of India divides bank holidays into three types, and customers can still use online banking services on holidays.
Bank Holiday Today: According to the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) calendar, all banks in India will be open on Saturday, March 15, 2024.
Banks are usually open on the first and third Saturdays of each month, and closed on the second and fourth Saturdays. Since March 15 is the third Saturday, all banks will be open.
Different Types Of Bank Holidays
The RBI divides bank holidays into three types:
- Negotiable Instruments Act holidays
- Real-Time Gross Settlement (RTGS) holidays
- Banks’ closing of accounts holidays
To know if banks are open or closed on a specific day, customers should check the official RBI website or its notifications to banks.
Banking Services On Holidays
The second and fourth Saturdays are holidays under the Negotiable Instruments Act, which deals with cheques and promissory notes. So, transactions involving these will not be available on these days.
However, customers can still use online banking services on holidays for easy financial transactions. Other services, like transferring funds, can be done using NEFT/RTGS forms, demand draft forms, and chequebook request forms.
You can use credit cards, debit cards, and ATM cards through card services. Other services like account maintenance, setting up standing instructions, and applying for a locker are also available.
Bank Holidays In March
Banks will be closed for up to eight days in March, except on weekends. According to the RBI bank holiday calendar, banks will be closed on March 7, 13, 14, 15, 22, 27, 28, and 31.
Banks are usually closed on weekends and due to national or regional festivals. This month, the closures are for festivals like Chapchar Kut, Holika Dahan/Attukal Pongala, Holi, Yaosang, Bihar Diwas, Shab-I-Qadr, Jumat-ul-Vida, and Ramzan-Id (Id-Ul-Fitr).
