In Ballia district, police were investigating the case of severed hands and legs found in a plastic bag on Saturday in the Khareed Diara area of Sikandarpur police station. On Monday, the remaining body parts were also found in an old well.
The body has been identified as Devendra Ram (62), a resident of Haripur village under Khejuri police station.
The body was transported in a vehicle and scattered at different locations to mislead the police.
Retired BRO Worker Killed, Wife Arrested
According to the police, Devendra Ram worked as an electrician in the Border Roads Organisation (BRO) and retired in December 2023.
In this case, his wife Maya Devi has been arrested. She was having an affair with Anil Yadav, who has also been arrested.
After the murder, Devendra’s body was dumped about 50 km away from his home. His hands and legs were cut off, and the rest of the body was stuffed into a large plastic bag and thrown into a well.
Police said that on Saturday, severed hands and legs wrapped in plastic were found in a garden near the road leading from Khareed to Diara.
The body parts were sent for post-mortem and DNA testing. Based on the evidence found at the spot, police had started their investigation.
Body Found in Well After Bad Smell Alerts Villagers
Meanwhile, on Monday, a bad smell was coming from a well near some bushes. Some women who had come there to graze goats informed the police.
When police pulled out a plastic bag from the well, they found a headless and limbless human body inside.
Devendra’s family had been living in a house in Bahadurpur (under Kotwali police station in Ballia) for the past 15 years, while he stayed in the village.

- His adopted son Vihaan stays in a hostel and is studying.
Daughter Exposes the Truth
The crime came to light, when Devendra’s daughter, who grew suspicious of her mother’s actions and informed the police. Her tip helped the police uncover the horrifying truth.
Police Action:
During the police action, main accused Anil Yadav was injured in an encounter and shot in the leg. He is now in police custody and receiving treatment.
Police have also arrested Satish, an associate of the accused.
The encounter took place in the Ballia Kotwali area, and the investigation is ongoing. The incident has left the entire district stunned.
