Bail Denied: Delhi HC Says Lawyer Can’t Walk Free Just Because Of His Profession

"Granting anticipatory bail in the broad daylight violence of the present nature at a public place would send wrong signals across the society that the aggressor took the law into his hands and walked free just because he happens to be an advocate,” the Delhi high court said.

The Delhi High Court refused to grant bail to a lawyer in a road rage case, saying it would send a “wrong signal” to society that the aggressor walked free because of his profession. The accused was allegedly involved in a “broad daylight”.

‘Everyone is equal in the eyes of the law’

According to PTI, Justice Girish Kathpalia said that everyone is equal in the eyes of the law, and granting him pre-arrest bail would malign the image of the noble profession.

Accused had assaulted a software engineer

The road rage incident took place in February when the accused and his brother allegedly assaulted a software engineer who was going on Deoli Road. The lawyer’s brother has a political link. 

The victim suffered serious injuries in the incident.

Delhi Police detain 13 illegal Bangladeshi immigrants

Delhi Police’s Crime Branch has detained 13 Bangladeshi nationals, including five children, for allegedly residing in India without valid documentation. The individuals were apprehended from village Auchandi in the national capital.

Detained individuals entered India through unfenced agricultural fields

According to DCP Crime, Aditya Gautam, “The detained individuals entered India through unfenced agricultural fields along the India-Bangladesh border and later reached Delhi via Cooch Behar railway station. They reportedly worked as casual labourers in a brick kiln in Kharkhoda, Haryana.”

The detained individuals include Md. Rafikul (50), Khoteza Begum (41), Md. Anowar Hussain (37), Md. Aminul Islam (28), Zorina Begum (27), Afroza Khatun (25), Md. Khakhon (20), Hasna (19), and five children.
