A strange incident was reported in Uttar Pradesh recently where the District Magistrate of Baghpat, Jitendra Pratap Singh, and Superintendent of Police Arpit Vijayvargiya were allegedly served a fake water bottle of Bisleri named ‘Bilseri’. A viral video showed the bottle kept in front of the DM, following which he took it in his hand, questioned the officials, and inquired about it.

The act led to the confiscation of thousands of counterfeit water bottles, which were destroyed by bulldozers. The incident reportedly occurred when the DM-SP visited the Niwada police post during the Baghpat Tehsil Sampoorna Samadhan Diwas, organized ahead of the Haryana assembly election 2024.

Shocking Findings

The DM was shocked to find the fake 500 ml bottle of the popular brand ‘Bisleri,’ which neither had a food license number nor any other evidence of authenticity. Taking cognizance of the matter, he immediately directed the Food Safety Department to check whether the water was pure or not.

News 18 reported that the Assistant Food Safety Commissioner Manvendra Singh was informed by the Niwada police outpost that the water was purchased from a shop in Gauripur. Further investigation revealed that Bhim Singh of Gauripur was running an unlicensed godown in his house by selling fake brand water to numerous shops in the district.

2,663 Bottles Destroyed

2,663 bottles falsely labeled as the particular brands ‘Bilseri,’ ‘Bisleri,’ and ‘Bislari’ were seized and destroyed on the spot and the samples were sent for analysis. A complaint was lodged for running the godown without a proper license, leading it its shut down.
