Bad news for Pakistan, China Bangladesh as Tejas Mk2 to become ‘silent killer’, DRDO seeks new radar dome, EW system to…

DRDO has issued an RFI for the Tejas jet. As per the RFI, ADA, an organisation under DRDO, has issued an RFP to develop a broadband radome as part of the electronic warfare suite for the LCA Mk2.

The Tejas has been a technological marvel and the brainchild of top engineers at HAL, but with relentless technological advancements over the years, HAL has ventured to upgrade the jet with new avionics and technology to ensure it maintains its air superiority.
In a similar pursuit, DRDO has issued an RFI for the Tejas jet. As per the RFI, ADA, an organisation under DRDO, has issued an RFP to develop a broadband radome as part of the electronic warfare suite for the LCA Mk2.

LCA Mk2 — Extreme Air Superiority

The LCA Mk2 will be a slightly more powerful and larger version of India’s Light Combat Aircraft, the Tejas. Currently, it is under development. DRDO has been working continually to ensure that the jet has capabilities close to 5th-generation fighters. The new RFP issued by ADA directly relates to the LCA Mk2’s EW suite.
The EW suite is an onboard system that jams enemy radar and missiles.

The unique feature of the radome will be its integrated polarizer, a technology that makes the radar’s signal clearer. This entire system will give the LCA Mk2 improved battlefield survivability, along with a powerful ability to evade enemy threats and detect them from far away.

Function of the Radome and Polarizer

The radome is a dome-like cover mounted on the front of an aircraft. This protects the radar from strong wind currents, rain, and dust while still allowing the radar signal to escape unobstructed. The radome also allows certain frequencies to pass through without interference. Such capabilities will further increase the combat effectiveness of the fighter jet. The new changes will allow for more accurate detection and a greater ability to jam enemy signals.

Manufacturing the radome in India will add to the control India has over this new advancement, making it easier to modify as needed. The project will help India become self-reliant in the complex areas of electronic warfare and radar technology for future warfare.
