Among the arrested is Gurnail Singh, who has been sent to police custody for seven days. Another arrested suspect, Dharmaraj Kashyap, initially claimed to be a minor, but an ossification test revealed he was an adult.
What has happened so far:
On Saturday night, Baba Siddiqui was shot dead in the Bandra (East) area of Mumbai. Two of the three attackers were caught by locals and the police on the spot, but the third, Sivanand alias Shivkumar Gautam, managed to escape.
CCTV footage from the area showed Sivanand at Panvel Station in Raigad, a neighboring district of Mumbai. The police suspect he was attempting to flee to another state via a long-distance train. Sivanand is believed to have fired six bullets at Baba Siddiqui.
Planning from Punjab to Mumbai:
In a remand paper submitted to the Esplanade Court, the police mentioned that four individuals were involved in the murder, with the fourth being Mohammad Zeeshan Akhtar. It is reported that Akhtar was released from Patiala Jail on June 7 of this year, and it is suspected that he came into contact with Lawrence Bishnoi’s gang members while in jail.
Akhtar is believed to have coordinated with the shooters in planning the murder and also helped arrange accommodation for them.
The police have also arrested Praveen Lonkar, the brother of Shubham Lonkar, who claimed responsibility for the murder on Facebook. Both brothers allegedly conspired with Dharmaraj Kashyap and Shivkumar Gautam.
Deputy Commissioner of Police confirmed that they are investigating the angle of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claiming responsibility for the murder through a Facebook post by Shubham Lonkar, who is from Maharashtra’s Akola district. The police are also probing him.
