Ex-Maharashtra minister and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader, Baba Siddique, was shot dead by three unidentified gunmen in Mumbai on Saturday. He breathed his last in a Mumbai hospital after succumbing to his injuries. Mumbai Police have arrested two suspects in the shooting case which took place outside his son, MLA Zeeshan Siddique’s office, according to reports.
The news of Siddique’s death has sent shockwaves throughout the political landscape and beyond. Political leaders across the spectrum condoled his death and called for a thorough investigation into the case.
Speaking to the media, Maharashtra CM Eknath Shinde said, “This is an extremely unfortunate incident. I have spoken to the doctors and the police. So far, two accused have been arrested from UP and Haryana. The third accused is absconding. Instructions have been given to Mumbai Police, ensuring strict action is taken against those who take law and order into their hands. I am confident that Mumbai police will soon arrest the third involved in the shooting.”

AIMIM Chief Assaudin Owaisi also expressed deep sorrow over the tragic deaths of Baba Siddique and Prof. Saibaba. He wrote, “Truly devastating news of two deaths on the same day. I highly condemn Baba Siddique’s murder as it reflects the deteriorating state of law & order in Maharashtra. May Allah grant him maghfirah. My condolences are with his family, friends & colleagues. Prof. Saibaba’s death is also deeply concerning. His death was partly a result of the UAPA which allows police to keep you in jail for extended periods without any proof.”

Cricketer Yuvraj Singh also mourned the loss of the NCP leader, stating, “Deeply shocked and saddened by the untimely passing of Baba Siddique. He was a true leader who worked tirelessly for the people, his sincerity and large-heartedness will be remembered by everyone who knew him. My condolences to his family in this difficult time. Bollywood actor Ritesh Deshmukh took to X to express his grief over Siddique’s death. He wrote, “Deeply saddened and shocked beyond words after learning about the tragic death of Shri Baba Siddique ji – My heart goes out to Zeeshan and the entire family – May god provide them strength during this difficult time. The perpetrators of this tragic crime must be brought to justice.”
