Mumbai was left in shock on Saturday as Baba Siddique, a prominent NCP leader and former minister, was shot dead in Mumbai’s Nirmal Nagar area. Siddique was rushed to Lilavati Hospital following the attack, where he succumbed to multiple gunshot injuries. The tragic incident has raised questions about the law and order situation in the state.
Police Arrest Two Suspects
There have been two arrests by the Mumbai Police, and both of them belong to Uttar Pradesh and Haryana. Meanwhile, the third accused is still on the run, and police teams are working in multiple directions to trace his whereabouts.
CM Eknath Shinde: Fast-Track Trial Assured
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde termed the attack “extremely unfortunate” and assured strict action against them. He has confirmed that two suspects have been arrested in the shooting case, one of whom hails from Uttar Pradesh and the other from Haryana. The third assailant is still absconding. “The Mumbai Police have been directed to expedite their efforts and ensure the third accused is apprehended soon,” said Shinde, adding that the need is to give swift justice through a fast-track trial.

The incident has sparked massive public outrage. Supporters gathered at Lilavati Hospital demanding speedy justice. Meanwhile, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis visited the hospital in person to gauge the situation, and added police forces were deployed in sensitive areas to avert unrest.
