The murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique has sent shock waves across the country. The former Maharashtra minister was shot dead in Mumbai on Saturday night. The shooters fired several rounds at the NCP leader, who received gun shots in his chest and the abdomen. Following the attack, he was rushed to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
Meanwhile, the Lawrence Bishnoi gang has claimed the responsibility for Baba Siddique’s murder. A person, who claimed to be a member of Bishnoi gang, claimed the responsibility for the murder via a social media post. Now, the police are investigating the authenticity of the post.
A Facebook account under the name Shubuu Lonkar, wrote, “Salman Khan, we did not want this war, but you harmed our brother. Baba Siddique’s chapter has closed today, or he was once under the MCOCA Act with Dawood. The reason for his death is Anuj Thapan and Dawood, who were to be linked with Bollywood, politics, and property dealings. We have no enmity with anyone, but whoever helps Salman Khan and the Dawood gang will have to settle their accounts.”
How Do Police And Investigative Agencies Probe Social Media Posts?
It is often challenging for investigative agencies to track or apprehend suspects through social media posts. In many cases, criminals create fake IDs or hack other users’ accounts to misuse them, complicating efforts to trace them. Often, stolen devices are used in these crimes, making it even harder for authorities to track down the perpetrators.
Police and investigative agencies follow several methods to investigate such posts at different stages. They analyse digital footprints, cross-check information with past cases, and verify the authenticity of claims.
IP Address Tracing: Investigative agencies begin by identifying the IP address of the device used. They track its location, but criminals often use VPNs or proxies to hide this.
Digital Forensics: Experts analyse metadata linked to the post, including the time, device, and browser used.
Assistance from Social Media Platforms: Platforms like Facebook, X (formerly Twitter), and Instagram are required to cooperate with law enforcement in such cases. Police can request details such as the registered email, phone number, and activity logs.
Language and Typing Style: Investigative agencies analyse the typing style, language, and timing of posts, comparing them with previous ones. For example, the Bishnoi gang has a unique style when claiming responsibility for crimes.
