Re-Eviction Campaign Removes Illegal Structures
This re-eviction campaign commenced in the early hours on September 9 by senior members in the administration, in the presence of police and paramilitary forces. The operation led to the removal of illegally built structures on government land.
According to India Today reports, the administration’s move comes amid growing concerns over illegal settlements in the area. A group of encroachers reportedly used the Kallang River route to occupy land in Kachutali Barbila, following which demolition operation was conducted.
Evicted Resident Claims Land Was Purchased Legally
In a statement to media, an evicted individual expressed his grief, stating that he is clueless about where they will go post-demolition. He urged the administration to re-consider their action. We haven’t illegally occupied the land, we brought it by paying a sum of money, he remarked. He claimed that the land was registered as stated by the broker. Meanwhile, he pointed out that they were residing in the locality since 10 years.
This is not the first time an eviction operation is carried out in the region.
