Assam Flood: The flood situation in Assam’s Nalbari remained critical as about 45,000 people and 108 villages are reeling under the deluge across nine districts of the state, an official said.
Around 200 families in Moiraranga, Batahghila village have been affected by this spell and most of the families are now taking shelter on roads, and embankments by making temporary tents.
Following torrential rain in the past few days in Assam and neighbouring country Bhutan the water level of Pagladiya River is flowing above the danger level mark and inundated new areas in the past 24 hours.
A total of 1,280 people were rescued in the last 24 hours by boats deployed by disaster management agencies. NDRF and SDRF teams are engaged in dealing with the flood situation. According to reports, the maximum number of 565 people have been evacuated from Tamulpur sub-division of the neighboring Bodoland territorial area of Bhutan. A total of 1,0591.85 hectare crop area has also been affected by the flood in various districts.
Situation deteriorated
Till Tuesday, Lakhimpur district of Upper Assam was the most affected. After 24 hours i.e. on Wednesday, the flood in the districts of lower and western Assam has become more frightening. The Central Water Commission (CWC) said that the water level of Puthimari river in Baksa district suddenly increased, while the water level of Pagladiya (Nalbari), Sankosh (Dhubri) and Beki (Barpeta) rivers in lower Assam also increased.
The ASDMA report states that the maximum number of 44,707 people have been affected in Nalbari district. After this, 26,571 people have been affected in Baksa. Over 25,000 people are affected in Lakhimpur. A total of 780 villages are flood-affected in the state, while Darrang, Kamrup (Metro), Kokrajhar, Nalbari districts and Bajali sub-divisions are facing urban flooding, the ASDMA said.
