AIMIM Chief Asadudin Owaisi lashed out at the Yogi Adityanath government after the latter decided to withdraw the Mohammad Akhlaq lynching case against the accused.
Owaisi termed that the UP government always “stood beside the guilty”.
In a post on X, he wrote, “In 2015, Akhlaq was lynched in Dadri on the false accusation of possessing beef. At that time, Indians didn’t even know what lynching meant. Today, lynching has become commonplace. Akhlaq’s family witnessed his lynching with their own eyes; they still haven’t recovered from that trauma. In ten years, no one has been punished. Now @myogiadityanath has decided that the cases against Akhlaq’s killers will be withdrawn. According to the government, this decision is in the interest of “social harmony.” Harmony is impossible on the foundation of injustice.
Yogi Baba makes grand statements about law and order, but this is the true face of the BJP—that it will always be seen standing with the guilty.”
… pic.twitter.com/qwS1b785If

‘Charges were framed against everyone’
Akhlaq’s lawyer, Advocate Yusuf Saifi, said, “Charges were framed against everyone… The eye witness testimony has also been given. Now, an order has come from the government… The case has been filed for withdrawal. We will appeal to the court and present our facts. We hope we will get justice… There were approximately 18 accused… The court has to decide what to do with the government’s petition… The mob killed Akhlaq by spreading a rumour… They had spread the wrong idea that it was beef (that he had stored and consumed)… According to the veterinary officer’s report, that meat was mutton.”
