A day after announcing his plan to resign, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has requested a meeting with Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, set for 4:30 pm tomorrow. Kejriwal is expected to formally submit his resignation during the meeting.
Kejriwal’s Resignation Announcement
Arvind Kejriwal surprised many when he told AAP workers, “I will resign in two days. I will only return as Chief Minister if the people choose me in the elections.” He emphasized that he wants the public’s verdict before he resumes office, with Delhi elections just months away.
Kejriwal’s Legal Troubles
This move comes shortly after the Supreme Court granted Kejriwal bail following his arrest in a corruption case related to Delhi’s scrapped liquor policy. Though out on bail, the court has placed several conditions on him.

AAP’s Next Steps
With Kejriwal stepping down, AAP will need to select a temporary Chief Minister until the upcoming elections. Potential candidates include Atishi, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Kailash Gahlot, and MPs Raghav Chadha and Sanjay Singh.
Opposition Reactions
The BJP criticized Kejriwal’s announcement, saying the public already gave their verdict during the recent Lok Sabha elections. Congress dismissed it as a political stunt, stating Kejriwal should have resigned during the city’s flood and water crisis.
Delhi will soon see a new Chief Minister, at least for the time being, as the political situation continues to develop.
