Arvind Kejriwal Granted Bail In Excise Police Case: Reactions From Top Politicians

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday granted bail to Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the case related to the excise policy. Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan were the two judges who gave that order.

Kejriwal was released almost six months after his first arrest by the Enforcement Directorate and two months after being granted bail over that arrest. The fresh bail makes him the fifth, and most high-profile opposition leader to have been released from jail in this case.

The court had deferred the order in the case on September 5. Earlier, the court granted an interim bail to Kejriwal in the case filed by the Enforcement Directorate, but he continued to remain in the jail because of the separate CBI case.

Other AAP Leaders Granted Bail Before Arvind Kejriwal

Abhishek Singhvi, appearing for Kejriwal, at the hearing last week, explained how all the other accused in the case are out on bail. Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, BRS legislator K Kavitha, Vijay Nair – former communications head of Aam Aadmi Party have been granted bail by the Supreme Court. Another AAP leader Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh was granted bail in April 2024.

Politicians React To AAP Leader’s Bail

AAP MLA Kuldeep Kumar said on the bail granted to Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, “All the plots against him have fallen flat. This is a big victory because the Supreme Court has granted him bail. The fake scam has been exposed. There will be a big celebration when the son of Delhi returns.”

Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj said, “Today’s newspapers report that around 40 people were accused and only 2 remain in jail now, so bail was expected. But the Supreme Court’s remarks about the Centre’s investigating agencies are big criticism of the Centre. With this Supreme Court decision, I believe the Union Home Minister should resign if the Centre has any shame. CBI is under the MHA and the Court categorically stated that the country’s top agency acted with vengeance.”
