Schools closed today, December 17: Air quality in Delhi and its surrounding areas has again deteriorated to the ‘severe’ category, with many residents reporting breathing difficulties, sore throats, and eye irritation. In response to the worsening situation, the Delhi government has enforced GRAP Stage 4 measures. Under these rules, all government and private schools in Delhi have been closed until further notice for students from Nursery to Class 5. Classes for students from Class 6 to 11 are being held in hybrid mode, while Class 10 and 12 students must attend school in person due to upcoming board exams.
The government has also directed all government and private offices to function with only 50 per cent staff on-site, with the remaining employees working from home.
Here’s what education department has said
“In view of the prevailing high AQI levels in Delhi, it has been decided that classes in physical mode for students of Nursery to Class V are discontinued till further orders for all Government, Government Aided and Unaided Private Recognized Schools of Delhi. All Heads of Schools are hereby directed to ensure classes in online mode for the students of these classes,” as per the statement by DoE.
