In 2023, the Government of India introduced the Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR ID), aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. The initiative aims to simplify students’ academic journeys by giving them a digital identifier that links their educational records across multiple institutions, both within India and internationally.
The APAAR ID is a unique 12-digit code that allows students to digitally store, manage, and access a wide range of academic information. This includes scorecards, mark sheets, grade sheets, degrees, diplomas, certificates, and even co-curricular achievements.
The new ID ensures smoother transitions between different educational stages and institutions, offering significant benefits to students pursuing education across varied platforms.
What Are the Requirements for Applying for an APAAR ID?
To generate an APAAR ID, a few prerequisites must be met:
- The student’s name must exactly match the records in the Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) as well as their Aadhaar card, ensuring consistency and accuracy in identification.
- The student’s Personal Education Number (PEN) is mandatory. This unique identification number links students across all education platforms.
