Anti-rape shield: As the government, NGOs, many organisations work to reduce violence against women in India, a young Karnataka student has taken the fight a step further by innovating footwear that can protect girls from sexual assault and rape.

A class 10 student from Karnataka’s Kalaburagi created anti-rape footwear to help girls protect themselves from sexual predators. Vijaylakshmi Biradar, a student at SRN Mehta School in Kalburgi, has taken women’s safety to new heights.

How anti-rape footwear works?

According to Vijaylakshmi, (Anti-rape shield) anti-rape footwear can cause serious harm to the rapist if the victim wears it during the attack. She stated that the women’s safety footwear will include a device that will electrocute the sexual predator.

The battery-powered anti-rape footwear, according to the student, will electrocute the rapist if the victim kicks him during the assault attempt, injuring and subduing him so she can escape safely. She explained that the electricity in the footwear is aided by batteries.

Features of footwear (Anti-rape shield)

Vijaylakshmi revealed another intriguing feature of the footwear, stating that it includes a GPS tag that will send an alert to the girl’s emergency contact, informing them that she is in danger. It will also send them the victim’s current location.

The 15-year-old Karnataka student revealed that she began working on this project when she was in Class 7 years ago. She was dedicated to improving women’s safety in the country and has received numerous awards for her recent innovation.

Her anti-rape shield project has also earned the student numerous awards, including an International Invention and Innovation expo award in Goa.
