In a new cross-border romance, a 25-year-old Pakistani woman crossed the India – Pakistan border last week to be with a man from Rajasthan. The two had met on social media and eventually got married.
After her first marriage ended in 2018, Mehvish, who lives in Islamabad, connected with Rehman. He was from Bikaner in Rajasthan and was working as a transporter in Kuwait.
After numerous interactions on social media, the two fell in love. This resulted in a marriage proposal on March 13, 2022, followed by a “wedding via videoconference” just three days later.
Later, Mehvish and Rehman had a formal, in-person wedding during Mehvish’s Umrah pilgrimage to Mecca in 2023.

Previously, Mehvish was married for 12 years to a Pakistani man from Lahore’s Badami Bagh, with whom she had two sons, aged 12 and 7. The couple decided to separate in 2018.
After her divorce, Mehvish connected with Rehman and they married first via video conference and then in person during her visit to Saudi Arabia.
Sources indicate that Mehvish traveled from Islamabad to Lahore and crossed into India through the Wagah border on July 25. She was granted a 45-day tourist visa following a thorough document review by both Pakistani and Indian authorities.
Mehvish was warmly welcomed by Rehman’s family and traveled with them to Pithisar village in Churu, Rajasthan.
This yet another cross-border romance is part of a broader pattern where people from India and Pakistan go through significant journeys to be with their loved ones. A big recent example is Seema Haider, who left her husband and crossed the border into India to marry her lover. Similarly, Anju, an Indian woman, traveled to Pakistan on a month-long visa to be with her partner Nasrullah.
Another high-profile case involved Mulayam Singh Yadav, a 21-year-old Indian, who helped his 19-year-old Pakistani wife, Iqra Jeewani, acquire a fake ID and enter India illegally after they met and fell in love through online Ludo. Following their arrest by Indian authorities, Iqra was deported to Pakistan, and Mulayam faced imprisonment and fraud charges.
