Gujarati Pani Puri Vendor, A Dead Ringer For PM Modi, Gains Popularity

Anil Bhai Thakkar, the owner of Tulsi Pani Puri center in Anand, Gujarat, is affectionately called "PM Modi" by locals because of his striking resemblance to the Prime Minister in terms of side profile and overall appearance. His hairstyle and white beard further add to the similarity with PM Modi.

As voting for the seven-phase Lok Sabha elections began earlier this month, the doppelganger of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Gujarat, who sells Pani Puri, has gone viral.

Locals refer to Anil Bhai Thakkar, who owns Tulsi Pani Puri center in Gujarat’s Anand, as PM Modi due to his similar side profile and appearance to the Prime Minister. His hairstyle and white beard also match those of PM Modi.

Originally from Junagadh, Mr. Thakkar has been selling chat at the ‘Tulsi Pani Puri Centre’ since he was 18, a shop started by his grandfather. The 71-year-old receives a lot of love and respect from both locals and tourists due to his resemblance to PM Modi, often posing for selfies with customers.

Mr. Thakkar deeply inspired by PM Modi’s values, emphasizes cleanliness at his stall like the Prime Minister does.  He is not the only doppelganger of Prime minister; Vikas Mahante from Mumbai’s Malad also bears an uncanny resemblance to the Prime Minister. This year, someone mistakenly identified a video of Vikas Mahante playing garbha as a deepfake of PM Modi.
